Harry Geerlings

Professor in Governance of Sustainable Mobility at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Harry Geerlings is professor in Governance of Sustainable Mobility at the School of Public Administration and Sociology of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Furthermore he is member (port-professor) of SmartPort, a cooperation between the Rotterdam port community, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the Delft University of Technology. He holds a PhD in economics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. For more than 25 years he is specialized in research in the domain of ports, sustainable transport, the interaction with environment and spatial planning and the need for change (in modern vocabulary: transition management). Most of this research is interdisciplinary by character focuses on the interaction with transportation, spatial planning and environment. He is active in several national and international research projects. Recent eye catchers were the projects Transumo-A15 and GreenEFFORTS, both dealing with the future of ports and terminals. Geerlings supervises a number of PhD students, is scholar of SmartPort and staff member of the PhD-school TRAIL (TRAnsport, Infrastructure and Logistics). This year Geerlings edited together with prof. Zuiwijk and Bart Kuipers the book Ports and Networks; Strategies, operations and perspectives, dealing with the interdisciplinary character of modern port management.
