Vassilios S. Tselentis
Professor in Marine Environment, Head of Marine Sciences Laboratory, Dept. of Maritime Studies, University of Piraeus
Dr. V.S. Tselentis has a background of chemistry (BSc) and biochemistry (MSc., PhD., University of London UK.), and has specialised in environmental monitoring of atmospheric and marine pollution. He is also a graduate of the post graduate degree in Public Health and Hiegine from the National School of Public Health and Hygiene. He is an Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor (ISO 14001) [Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (London 31/1/2003), approved by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA)], mainly working with the ECOPORTS foundation. He has been responsible for research projects concerned with measurements of basic pollutants in water and air, as well as specialised analysis of novel substances relevant to the marine environment. He has cooperated with the Port Authority of Piraeus, Corfu, Volos, Porto Lagos, supporting ECOPORTS management tools such as Self Diagnosis Methodology (SDM) and the environmental quality certification “Port Environmental Review System” (PERS). He is a professor in “Marine Environment” and heads the Marine Sciences Laboratory of the Maritime Studies Department of the University of Piraeus. The laboratory is active in areas such as Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), Environmental Management of harbour and port operations, Establishment of Marine Protected Areas in the Greek island topography, Stakeholder Management especially in Coastal Zone Management Institutions and Organizations, Waste Management Plan Development, Environmental Quality Review and Certification Systems.
